20 Years, 20 Stories: The Dirt Factory

On Saturday, April 8th UCD will host our annual Dirt Day event at The Dirt Factory. During Dirt Day, neighbors can collect up to 10 gallons per person of screened compost produced from University City’s fallen leaves and food scraps, and get samples of their soil tested for lead, cadmium, and arsenic.

Breaking Ground on Trolley Portal Gardens

We did it! On Tuesday, December 6th, Mayor James Kenney and other key stakeholders joined us as we broke ground on Trolley Portal Gardens, the future home of a public space and restaurant at the 40th Street Trolley Portal. This public-private partnership between UCD, SEPTA, the City of Philadelphia, and neighborhood stakeholders will transform a blighted and unwelcoming place into a vibrant and social space and a new restaurant called Trolley Car Station.

The Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll Returns September 8th

The Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll will return for one night only on Thursday, September 8th. The Dollar Stroll, featuring $1 deals from local businesses as well as street performers, live music, and more, is one of University City's most popular events. This year's Dollar Stroll will include nearly 40 businesses, including seven establishments participating for the first time. We'll be welcoming food trucks, roaming performances by musicians and street performers, jugglers and face painters, and much more.

Looking Back at Five Years of Parklets

On this date in 2011, University City District installed Philadelphia's first parklets. Five years later, tens of thousands of people have enjoyed these public spaces. UCD's parklets are small, temporary parks that replace a few parking spots with a public space open for the entire community to enjoy.

Nowhere to park your bike? UCD wants to help. UCD is crowdsourcing photos showing overcrowded or out-of-repair bike parking or bikes parked to trees, railings, etc. in neighborhood commercial corridors and at other neighborhood destinations in University City.
