Apr 22, 2015 9 years ago

Give your garden a boost with some high quality organic compost. UCD’s Dirt Factory will be distributing up to 10 gallons per person of screened compost produced from University City’s fallen leaves and food scraps. Take a tour of The Dirt Factory, pick up a free vegetable or herb transplant, and stay for a great workshop on composting and urban soils.

Workshops: 11AM – 12PM: Composting for Everyone

Learn how to compost no matter where you live or what kind of space you have. Composting expert Tyler Weaver, host of Tyler Talks Trash, will share his experience with a variety of different composting methods. Wherever you have some space - in a basement, on a balcony, or in a small yard – there’s a composting technique for you, and this workshop will give you a great opportunity to get some hands on experience with a variety of different methods.

12PM – 1PM: Building Healthy Soil

Eric Blasco, creator of edible landscapes through his Philadelphia based business Erb Food & Garden, will discuss practical, organic strategies for gardeners to keep their soil healthy. Topics will include growing in urban soils, soil testing, and incorporating compost into your garden. Soil test kits will be available for purchase for $10.

Where: The Dirt Factory, 4308 Market Street

When: Saturday, May 2nd, 10:00AM – 1:00PM
