Local restaurant Distrito has unveiled a new look and concept for its University City (3945 Chestnut) location with the addition of Distrito Taquería. The two-story establishment has split its concept, and its menu, in two, with the first floor now offering more affordable offerings inspired by the rich street food heritage of Mexico city's taco shops, featuring $3.50 tacos, $9.50 burritos, and $9.50 quesadillas. Each meal comes with a choice of nine fillings, ranging from al pastor and ropa vieja to cabrito (goat barbacoa) and tofu chorizo. Soups, salads, and starters are also available, along with a full bar featuring Distrito's signature margaritas, over 250 tequilas, and beer towers decorated with sugar skulls holding 128 ounces of beer.

The first floor has also undergone a renovation that added laser cut paper flags, market lights, swing set seating, glitter and floral topped hi-top seating and picnic benches. The Volkswagen Beetle seating area has been moved to the center of the dining room and a new Karaoke Lounge has seating for up to 20 guests and a stage for the singer.

The second floor has also been updated with an open layout and new furniture, but the original Distrito menu will remain the same. The Distrito team is led by Chef de Cuisine, Maria Schmidt, and General Manager, Lesley Gehring.
