University City District is pleased to announce the hiring of Andrew Stober as our new Vice President for Planning and Economic Development. Stober joins UCD after working for more than six years for the City of Philadelphia.

With the City, Stober served as the Chief of Staff for the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities (MOTU), where he had lead responsibility for launching Philadelphia’s Indego bike share program and for raising millions of dollars in competitive public and private grant programs aimed at improving transit infrastructure. In this role, Stober also acted as Mayor Michael Nutter’s spokesman on transportation and energy issues, coordinated with the police and health departments to launch a significant pedestrian safety effort, and brought revenue to the City through a highly successful bus shelter advertising program.

While working with MOTU, Stober was a key collaborator with UCD’s work on a City level, facilitating partnerships that helped bring the Porch at 30th Street Station, the 40th Street Trolley Portal, and UCD’s Parklet program to fruition. Stober joins UCD after running for an at-large seat on Philadelphia City Council as an independent.

“We’re thrilled to have Andrew join our talented team,” said Matt Bergheiser, UCD’s Executive Director. “His work with the City of Philadelphia embodied the very best of what it takes to facilitate public-private partnerships that transform communities. He brings this focus and entrepreneurial spirit to UCD at a moment of unrivaled possibility in our work around both civic infrastructure and economic opportunity.”

"I am excited to work with UCD’s team, community and institutions during a time of unprecedented growth in the area,” remarked Stober. “There is an important opportunity to use new public spaces, improved transportation options and commercial corridor support to make University City an international model for inclusive development."

In his role as Vice President for Planning and Economic Development, Stober will oversee a portfolio that includes public space development and management, commercial corridor development, and pedestrian and transportation improvements for University City, and work to continue the mission of UCD to promote a world class, vibrant neighborhood through major investments in public space development, public maintenance and public safety, and by connecting entrepreneurs and residents to economic opportunity.
