The University of Pennsylvania, The Rotunda, and University City District (UCD) are once again teaming up to bring a slate of free entertainment to the beautiful green space just behind the Walnut Street Free Library at 40th and Walnut Streets. Kicking off the season on Saturday, May 30th, will be a showcase from local theater group The Bearded Ladies with Tapestry Tribal opening. Each month’s performance also features face painting, balloon animals, and complimentary (first come, first served) Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Philadelphia Pretzel Factory pretzels.

The Bearded Ladies are the experimental cabaret group who tackles culture, sex, gender, and artistic invention. They will be returning to University City after performing for UCD at the Porch at 30th Street Station last fall. This time, the Beards will present a combination of old favorites from their repertoire, plus a sneak peek of their newest piece Bitter Homes and Gardens: A Botanical Hoedown, their upcoming collaboration with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Opening the show will be Tapestry Tribal, a local dance group mixing Middle Eastern dance with influences from around the world.

The series will run the last Saturday of the month from May through September. Most acts are still being finalized, but June is confirmed to present BalletX with openers Kyo Daiko.
