Each year we publish the State of University City booklet, newsletters, pamphlets, infographics and more, keeping residents and visitors up to date on the happenings of University City and its surroundings.
State of University City
University City District (UCD) is pleased to announce the release of The State of University City 2011, a new publication that illustrates the neighborhood’s exemplary status as a knowledge center; an engine of prosperity, innovation and commercial vibrancy; and a world-class neighborhood with world-class amenities. More than 40 pages of color charts, statistics, photographs, and personal stories help demonstrate why University City is one of the most vibrant and vital neighborhoods in the region.
University City has become a place where Philadelphia’s future is happening today. It’s a boomtown with nearly 70,000 jobs and $2 billion in real estate projects recently completed or under construction. Neighborhood institutions are investing more than $1 billion dollars in R&D spending into new cures and innovation, and University City has already exceeded the City’s 2015 targets for renewable energy. Global innovators, Iron Chefs, the IRS, Hilton hotels and even urban beekeepers all call University City home. These are just a few of the many signs that University City is a first-class neighborhood. This publication illustrates the exciting progress of the neighborhood and the impact of University City District.

This handy publication is small enough to fit in a back pocket, but unfolds revealing 180 exciting attractions including two Iron Chef-owned restaurants, acclaimed BYOBs and a breadth of international cuisine, an astounding array of arts activities, unique shops and retailers, popular farmers’ markets, and quaint bed and breakfast spots. The publication, which is available throughout the region, features a plethora of professional photographs, contact details and short descriptions, along with the easy-to-use map which makes navigating the neighborhood easier than ever.
