Packing up the Parklets

Each year in University City we know the winter is truly approaching when it comes time to store away our Parklets, the popular temporary seating platforms that transform parallel parking spaces into a place to sit, relax, eat and enjoy street life. In keeping with the City's guidelines, we dissemble our Parklets before 12/1 each year for winter storage, and reintroduce them to the community again the following April.

Baltimore Crossing Unveiled

The five-way intersection of 48th St., Baltimore Ave. and Florence Ave. has long been a confusing and potentially dangerous crossing for pedestrians and bicyclists. Walkers confronted a massive expanse of asphalt and fast moving vehicles along with a confusing pattern of crosswalks that did not permit a direct crossing along the busy Baltimore Ave. commercial corridor, forcing many to play a game of “frogger” with speeding cars and trucks.

Philadelphia’s First Parklet Returns!

Philadelphia’s first Parklet debuted last summer on 43rd Street. This week, UCD re-stalled the 43rd Street (just north of Baltimore Avenue) Parklet and will introduce the neighborhood to additional Parklet locations as the summer continues. It’s open to anyone ready to enjoy a cup of coffee, a quick sandwich, or just take in the area’s busy streetscape.
