UCD's foundational focus is on the physical world, and we work to maintain clean and safe streets while ensuring that our roads are accommodating to pedestrians, bikers, drivers and public transit riders.

Maintaining Clean and Safe Streets

We operate a robust ‘Clean and Safe’ program that provides services throughout the district. Our Public Safety Ambassadors serve as a highly visible deterrent to crime, patrolling University City streets from 8am to 3am and working in coordination with local police and security teams. Our Public Space Maintenance employees supplement City services by cleaning and enhancing 160 commercial and residential blocks and maintaining 125 public trash cans. Together, they provide a safe and welcoming environment for residents, employees, students and visitors.

For more than a decade, UCD has helped facilitate transit throughout University City, operating a district-wide shuttle for local employees, addressing bike and pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, transit routing and more. In 2018, UCD’s partners came together to launch a Transportation Management Association (TMA), opening new opportunities to improve how people and goods get around our neighborhood, particularly as both residential and employment activity grows across the district.
