Monday, June 30th through Wednesday, July 2nd, the Porch at 30th Street Station will welcome artist Hunter Franks for a temporary installation entitled Museum of You.

Museum of You is a participatory installation that seeks to break down barriers between people with the commonality of things we cherish. According to Franks, "We walk by each other all the time and make assumptions about where other people come from and what is important to them. But what if you already know what was important to them?" Museum of You is a participatory "museum" that celebrates the diverse yet shared experiences of things we value. Passersby become visitors to the museum by writing a story about an object they value or cherish. They are then encouraged to hang the story of the object to clothespins strung from umbrellas around the Porch. The shared stories then become the "museum," as participants and guests to the Porch take time to slow down and take in what others have shared.

Hunter Franks is in Philadelphia for a three-week residency with support from Knight Foundation. His mission is to use creativity to build community. His participatory projects create shared spaces and experiences that break down social barriers and catalyze connections between people and communities, and meshes with the goal of UCD to create and sustain public spaces that build a stronger and more vibrant University City.
