Marketing, Event, and Social Media Intern

UCD plans and executes a robust schedule of neighborhood events, including: University City Dining Days, the Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll, the 40th Street Summer Series, Clark Park Movie Series, activities at The Porch at 30th Street Station, University City MIX networking happy hours, and other events as needed.

 

UCD seeks an intern for a paid, part-time summer position working to support our summer event series through communications, planning, organization, social media support and on-site interactions, as the organization looks to engage the thousands of students who live in University City.  This position presents an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced, fun environment, working with our event planner and marketing team. The position requires flexible hours including occasional nights and weekends.   The position reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications, and will work very closely with the Communications Manager and Event Planner.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support UCD’s mission of engaging wide and varied audiences in our summer events, with a focus on reaching younger, college audiences through new channels.
  • Write short, creative marketing pieces for inclusion on the University City District blog, website and e-news.
  • Design social media campaigns to support summer programming events using photos, videos and original content on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat
  • Research new events, partners, performers and projects for University City District at The Porch and other venues/public spaces in University City
  • Promote University City District events through tabling, flyer distribution, giveaways and interactions with members of the community
  • Assist in organizing materials for events, including promotional material, giveaways, scripts, and other responsibilities as needed
  • Assist event planner as a liaison to restaurants, performers, and partner groups for events
  • Help obtain contact information from event attendees and perform data entry after events
  • Help maintain online event listings with various media and online outlets

 

Qualifications:

  • This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail and organizational skills, creative thinking and a passion for communications, social media, and events. The individual we are seeking is a self-starter who is able to work independently, but also contribute as a member of a team. One should easily adapt to changing priorities within a fast-paced environment and demonstrate ability to carefully set priorities, meet deadlines, and schedule time efficiently
  • Demonstrated communications, photography and social media skills
  • We are seeking someone to join us on a part time (10-15 hours/week) basis, but some additional time may be required (above 10 hours per week) on busy event weeks. The complete summer schedule will be available before the start date of the position, though it is subject to change
  • Must be able to work outdoors, stand for long periods of time, and be able to lift up to 35 pounds
