SUMMARY:Ginkgo Watch 2025 at the Woodlands Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:GINKGO WATCH 2025Ginkgos are known to put on a show each fall with their bright yellow foliage\, but their most special trait is dropping all of their leaves at once after one of the first frosts of the season. \n\n\n\nThe Woodlands staff is keeping a close eye on the trees and the weather in order to be as prepared as possible for Ginkgo Watch. With this map\, you can visit the Ginkgos. You can also learn more about the history of the Ginkgo at The Woodlands (did you know the Ginkgo tree was first introduced to the US here at The Woodlands by our own William Hamilton?) with our blog post\, “Roots of the Ginkgo.” \n\n\n\nCome for a walk this Fall to see the glowing ginkgo leaves\, tag your photos with @woodlandsphila and #GinkgoWatch\, and make sure to follow our social media for updates on when the golden carpets arrive.

SUMMARY:Into the Blue Exhibit at Penn Museum - on view through spring 2026
DESCRIPTION:A new exhibition curated by undergraduate students from the University of Pennsylvania explores the deep human history associated with a popular hue that has stood the test of time—Into the Blue: The Pursuit of a Color opens Saturday\, March 29\, 2025 at the Penn Museum. \n\n\n\nUnlike today\, blue was not easy to produce nor acquire in the ancient past. The relentless pursuit of blue for use in textiles and art has led to the development of ingenious methods in producing this rare\, highly prized color that holds significant meaning for diverse cultures around the world throughout history. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInto the Blue spans 4\,000 years—displaying 20 objects from across the Penn Museum’s collections\, including select artifacts from the Middle East\, China\, Africa\, ancient Egypt\, and Central America. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe exhibition examines three themes: Obtaining Blue\, Making Blue\, and Synthesizing Blue. \n\n\n\nObtaining Blue highlights the mining and transportation of lapis lazuli\, a semi-precious gemstone used in decorative and ceremonial objects in the Middle East—along with the trapping of kingfishers\, brightly colored birds whose feathers were used to decorate articles of adornment in China. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInto the Blue will be on view through spring 2026 and is included with Penn Museum admission.

SUMMARY:Re*Membering Mavis Pusey
DESCRIPTION:Re*Membering Mavis Pusey brings together artists\, scholars\, and curators to reflect on the life and legacy of Mavis Pusey (1928–2019)—a pioneering abstract artist whose dynamic prints and paintings capture the rhythm of urban change and the resilience of Black modernity. \n\n\n\nTaking place during the closing weekend of the first major museum survey of Pusey’s work\, the symposium explores questions of visibility\, preservation\, and remembrance. How can acts of conservation and curation become forms of remembrance and care for artists whose legacies have been obscured? How do we care for the material and historical traces of artists whose voices have been overlooked? How can institutions reframe their roles in sustaining the legacies of Black women artists? \n\n\n\nHosted by the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania with funding support from Terra Foundation for American Art\, the symposium will take place across two days. On Friday\, December 5th\, ICA will host public dialogues featuring notable participants from the field\, including O’Neil Lawrence of the National Gallery of Jamaica\, conservation specialists from the Getty Research Institute and Williamstown + Atlanta Art Conservation Center\, and members of the Studio Museum in Harlem’s leadership and curatorial teams. An invitation-only scholars’ day will occur on Saturday\, December 6th.
