SUMMARY:Into the Blue Exhibit at Penn Museum - on view through spring 2026
DESCRIPTION:A new exhibition curated by undergraduate students from the University of Pennsylvania explores the deep human history associated with a popular hue that has stood the test of time—Into the Blue: The Pursuit of a Color opens Saturday\, March 29\, 2025 at the Penn Museum. \n\n\n\nUnlike today\, blue was not easy to produce nor acquire in the ancient past. The relentless pursuit of blue for use in textiles and art has led to the development of ingenious methods in producing this rare\, highly prized color that holds significant meaning for diverse cultures around the world throughout history. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInto the Blue spans 4\,000 years—displaying 20 objects from across the Penn Museum’s collections\, including select artifacts from the Middle East\, China\, Africa\, ancient Egypt\, and Central America. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe exhibition examines three themes: Obtaining Blue\, Making Blue\, and Synthesizing Blue. \n\n\n\nObtaining Blue highlights the mining and transportation of lapis lazuli\, a semi-precious gemstone used in decorative and ceremonial objects in the Middle East—along with the trapping of kingfishers\, brightly colored birds whose feathers were used to decorate articles of adornment in China. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInto the Blue will be on view through spring 2026 and is included with Penn Museum admission.

SUMMARY:Trolley Blitz: Trolleys Rerouted July 11 – August 11
DESCRIPTION:SEPTA crews are tackling critical track and power maintenance\, station upgrades and intensive cleaning as part of the 2025 Trolley Tunnel Closure. This year\, in addition to the work by SEPTA\, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will also be performing rehabilitation on the tunnel under the Schuylkill River. Due to the number of events planned for the city of Philadelphia in 2026\, there will be no major Trolley Closure next summer. \n\n\n\nImpact on Riders\n\n\n\nSEPTA Trolley Routes [T1] 10\, [T2] 34\, [T3] 13\, [T4] 11 and [T5] 36 will not operate in the Center City tunnel from 10 pm on Friday\, July 11 to 6 am on Monday\, August 11. \n\n\n\nTrolley service will begin and end at 40th and Market Streets. Customers can board SEPTA’s [L] Market-Frankford Line at 40th Street Station for travel to Center City. Bus routes 21 or 42 also provide connections to/from Center City. For travel from Center City to University City and Southwest Philadelphia\, riders can board the [L] Market-Frankford Line at 13th Street and then connect with trolley routes at 40th Street. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is the 13th consecutive year SEPTA has held the Trolley Tunnel Closure program\, which is scheduled during the summer when ridership is traditionally lower to impact the fewest number of regular customers. \n\n\n\nThis program gives SEPTA crews the opportunity to tackle construction\, maintenance and safety improvement work in a concentrated period of time to reduce the number of outages throughout the year. It also enables preparation for Trolley Modernization – SEPTA’s program to transform the nation’s largest trolley network into an accessible\, fast and easy-to-use system. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nView alerts\, advisories and detours across the system. To get the latest service news\, call Customer Service at 215-580-7800 or follow SEPTA @SEPTA.
