SUMMARY:Into the Blue Exhibit at Penn Museum - on view through spring 2026
DESCRIPTION:A new exhibition curated by undergraduate students from the University of Pennsylvania explores the deep human history associated with a popular hue that has stood the test of time—Into the Blue: The Pursuit of a Color opens Saturday\, March 29\, 2025 at the Penn Museum. \n\n\n\nUnlike today\, blue was not easy to produce nor acquire in the ancient past. The relentless pursuit of blue for use in textiles and art has led to the development of ingenious methods in producing this rare\, highly prized color that holds significant meaning for diverse cultures around the world throughout history. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInto the Blue spans 4\,000 years—displaying 20 objects from across the Penn Museum’s collections\, including select artifacts from the Middle East\, China\, Africa\, ancient Egypt\, and Central America. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe exhibition examines three themes: Obtaining Blue\, Making Blue\, and Synthesizing Blue. \n\n\n\nObtaining Blue highlights the mining and transportation of lapis lazuli\, a semi-precious gemstone used in decorative and ceremonial objects in the Middle East—along with the trapping of kingfishers\, brightly colored birds whose feathers were used to decorate articles of adornment in China. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInto the Blue will be on view through spring 2026 and is included with Penn Museum admission.

Nice One includes hits like “Call Your Bluff\,” “Excuse Me Miss\,” and the soulful rocksteady tune\, “Bad Influence.” You can catch them on tour across North America. \n\n\n\npoetik selektions will kick things off with a DJ set at 5 PM\, and Catbite will take the stage at 6:30! We’ll be welcoming BlocoFunk on Thursday\, June 12th and Lady Alma and Vertical Current back to The Lawn on Thursday\, July 10th. \n\n\n\nAbout the Lawn: The Lawn at uCity Square is a playful pop-up space where the neighborhood can find shade\, feel the grass beneath their feet\, and enjoy events like live music\, movies\, fitness classes\, crafts\, and more. The uCity Square Beer Garden is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 PM to 7 PM all season long. See their full calendar of events here. \n\n\n\nAbout Two Locals: Richard and Mengistu Koiler made history when they opened Two Locals Brewing Company\, the first Black-owned brewery in Philadelphia\, in January of 2024 at 3675 Market Street within uCity Square. Two Locals serves a growing selection of house-brewed beers and food provided by Liberty Kitchen. See the video we produced about their journey from brewing at home to opening up their flagship store in University City.

SUMMARY:Indications: Teresa Cervantes
DESCRIPTION:Indications: Teresa CervantesAugust 15 – November 29\, 2025 \n\n\n\nPlease join Saint Joseph’s University for the opening reception of Indications: Teresa Cervantes at The Marvin Samson Museum for the History of Pharmacy. The event will take place on Friday\, September 5th from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at Griffith Hall (first floor\, 601 South 43rd St.) on Saint Joseph University’s West Philadelphia campus. \n\n\n\nFree and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. \n\n\n\nAbout the Exhibition: The Marvin Samson Museum for the History of Pharmacy presents work by Artist-in-Residence Teresa Cervantes. Drawing on traditions of apothecary craft\, pharmaceutical marketing\, and visual art\, Cervantes’ compounded artistic approaches divulge the hope\, fear\, and purpose contained within the domestic medicine cabinet. As sites of ritual self-construction\, medicine cabinets are porous spaces bridging the personal and political\, the corporal and corporate. Indications invites viewers to consider the active ingredients of play\, poetry and touch as forms of resistance to today’s increasingly corporate health and wellness industries. \n\n\n\nPublic Hours:Thursday 2-6 p.m.\, Friday 1-5 p.m.\, Saturday 12-4 p.m.\, and by appointmentCurator Led Tours:First Saturdays in September\, October\, and November at 1 p.m.See website for full schedule of programs: sju.edu/pharmacymuseum/exhibitions \n\n\n\nAccess information: Saint Joseph’s University is dedicated to hosting inclusive and accessible events. If entering Griffith Hall through the Main Entrance at 601 S 43rd St.\, there are three sets of doors\, each with five stairs leading up from street level. The middle set of stairs has railings on both sides. There are two sets of manual\, wooden doors visitors must go through before entering Griffith Hall’s foyer\, which leads directly to the entrance of the museum gallery. Griffith Hall also has an ADA accessible entrance with a ramp\, railing\, automatic doors\, and elevator\, as well as accessible restrooms and parking. Please contact us ahead of time to arrange an escort through this entrance\, which is locked to the public. Two air filters will be running in the gallery.
