SUMMARY:Young Artist Summer Camp: Made to Wear\, Made with Care: Functional & Wearable Art
DESCRIPTION:Our youngest designers create simple jewelry\, paint on fabric\, and craft wearable items such as crowns\, capes\, and accessories. They’ll explore color\, pattern\, and personal style while learning that art isn’t just for walls; it can be worn\, shared\, and carried with you wherever you go. \n\n\n\nBlooms (3rd-5th): Wear Your Art \n\n\n\nMiddle-level artists learn beading techniques\, basic hand-sewing\, tie-dye\, and accessory-making. They’ll design and create jewelry\, bags\, patches\, and wearable pieces that express their personality. Students explore how fashion serves as a form of self-expression and learn skills they can use to personalize their own wardrobe. \n\n\n\nRoots (6th-12th): Made to Wear\, Made with Care \n\n\n\nOur oldest designers explore fiber arts\, advanced jewelry-making techniques\, and wearable sculpture. They’ll learn about sustainable fashion\, upcycling\, and how wearable art challenges the boundaries between craft\, fashion\, and fine art. This group creates sophisticated pieces\, from hand-stitched garments to sculptural jewelry\, that are both functional and thought-provoking.

SUMMARY:The Orator: Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.
DESCRIPTION:University of Pennsylvania African American Resource Center presents The Orator: Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. \n\n\n\nThe Orator is a true story\, highlighting the journeyof K Rose\, a gifted child orator\, growing up in the city of Philadelphia underthe influence and tutelage of her mother. While her home life shaped heroratorical gift\, the Black Baptist church provided the stage for her oratorical gift to be nurtured. Taking notice of the young girl’s oratorical gift\, whenshe spoke on youth day at the Historical St. Paul’s Baptist church in NorthPhiladelphia\, was Dr. William Cousins\, an optometrist\, civic leader and member of the civic group\, Philadelphia Frontiers. Dr. Cousins makes a very unusual request to K. Rose at the age of thirteen\, to learn the I Have a Dream speech\, by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King jr. \n\n\n\nPerformed as a one-women show\, the performance\, highlights the history of the African American family and community. \n\n\n\nAdmission is FREE

SUMMARY:Garden Court Community Association: Community Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Community members are invited to provide feedback on the 52nd Street Commercial Corridor Improvement Project as the city continues working on the conceptual design. Launched in 2024\, the project aims to bring improvements to the portion of the street between Arch and Pine\, which would make the corridor “safer\, cleaner and greener” for all. \n\n\n\nThe proposed plan includes traffic calming measures\, transit and streetscape improvements\, and improved curbside parking and loading. \n\n\n\nThe project is currently in its design stage and includes a series of public meetings and online survey where community members can provide input. Since last summer\, businesses and neighbors were asked for feedback on traffic safety issues and potential design tools. A draft conceptual design plan for the commercial corridor was developed in the Fall 2025 based on the gathered input and analysis. \n\n\n\nThe next phase of the project\, scheduled for this spring/summer\, includes more community meetings where an updated design plan will be shared with the public for more input and additional changes. The conceptual design is expected to be finalized in the fall after which the City will begin seeking funds for construction. \n\n\n\nResidents or business owners who cannot attend the meeting are asked to fill out the project survey \n\n\n\nThe project is in partnership with the Enterprise Center and community stakeholders. For more details and updates\, go here.

SUMMARY:Into the Blue Exhibit at Penn Museum - on view through spring 2026
DESCRIPTION:A new exhibition curated by undergraduate students from the University of Pennsylvania explores the deep human history associated with a popular hue that has stood the test of time—Into the Blue: The Pursuit of a Color opens Saturday\, March 29\, 2025 at the Penn Museum. \n\n\n\nUnlike today\, blue was not easy to produce nor acquire in the ancient past. The relentless pursuit of blue for use in textiles and art has led to the development of ingenious methods in producing this rare\, highly prized color that holds significant meaning for diverse cultures around the world throughout history. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInto the Blue spans 4\,000 years—displaying 20 objects from across the Penn Museum’s collections\, including select artifacts from the Middle East\, China\, Africa\, ancient Egypt\, and Central America. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe exhibition examines three themes: Obtaining Blue\, Making Blue\, and Synthesizing Blue. \n\n\n\nObtaining Blue highlights the mining and transportation of lapis lazuli\, a semi-precious gemstone used in decorative and ceremonial objects in the Middle East—along with the trapping of kingfishers\, brightly colored birds whose feathers were used to decorate articles of adornment in China. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInto the Blue will be on view through spring 2026 and is included with Penn Museum admission.

SUMMARY:WXPN Welcomes: Loudon Wainwright III & Chris Smither
DESCRIPTION:They first met in the late 1960s amidst the folk revival\, and since then\, Loudon Wainwright III and Chris Smither have each made an indelible mark on the contemporary singer-songwriter scene. With influences from folk\, country\, jazz and rock\, Wainwright’s music is rich\, candid and witty\, as he “wrings more human truth out of his contradiction than any other songwriter of his generation.” Smither’s folk and blues sound is layered over the ever-present backbeat of his tapping feet\, taking “the blues in a direction entirely his own: stoic existential ruminations sung in a pained\, weathered moan and set to quietly virtuosic guitar.” Don’t miss this Penn Live Arts debut of two music icons.
