Transportation

30th Street Station is the third busiest Amtrak station in the nation, with 53,000 travelers a day. SEPTA’s regional rail goes to neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia and the suburbs, all the way to Delaware, and to Philadelphia International Airport. New Jersey Transit trains cross the Delaware River, and AMTRAK trains travel to destinations as far away as Miami, Chicago and New Orleans.

University City itself is one of the most easily traversed areas of Philadelphia. SEPTA offers trolleys, buses and subways servicing the neighborhood from end to end. University City also boasts some of the most bicycle-friendly streets in the area, with a network of roughly 30 miles of bike lanes and some of the most popular Indego Bike Share stations in the city.

For those who prefer to drive but don’t have wheels of their own, Zip Car and Enterprise Car Share offer vehicles on loan. With two interstate highways converging by the Schuylkill River, drivers have excellent access to the regional highway system.

 

LUCY®

Take the LUCY: LOOP THROUGH UNIVERSITY CITY shuttle. LUCY® is free to students of the University of Pennsylvania and employees of University of Pennsylvania, University of Pennsylvania Health System, University City Science Center, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. All others can ride with Trans or TrailPass, transfers, or $2.50 bus fare. LUCY has a wheelchair lift and two wheelchair tie-downs per bus.

The LUCY® shuttle runs every 5 to 30 minutes from 6:10am to 7:00pm Monday through Friday*

*Except major holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

 

Bicycling

Biking may be the fastest, easiest way to get around University City. With nearly 30 miles of bike lanes, 19 Indego Bike Share stations and much lighter traffic than Center City, many travelers find going on two wheels not only convenient but safe.

Public Transit

From buses to trolleys to subways, there are many options for public transit within University City, and transit hubs to connect to regional and national travel.  including SEPTA for local travel and AMTRAK for regional trips.
