30th Street Craft Market Featured Artist: Suzanne Francis

My name is Suzanne Francis, and I have been selling my linoleum & wood block prints on the streets of Philadelphia since about 1996. I also sell my cards at VIX and various historical sites around town.

To make a block print, I must carve away everything that will not be a black line. After carving the block, I ink it up, and press a piece of paper onto it using a baren.

I then hand color the prints with watercolors and package them up as cards. I make cards of types of Philly rowhouses, and landmarks for locals. I also use topical flora and fauna for inspiration.
