Keep Unwanted Flyers Out of Your Mailbox, The Street, and Landfills

How many different pizza delivery menus do you really need? Did you know that you could stop those pesky advertisements from appearing constantly in your mailbox (and then in the street, when they blow away) with a simple sticker? Starting in 2012, you can stop by the UCD office at 3940 Chestnut Street and pick up a neat Circular Free Property sticker (from 8:30AM – 5:00PM, M – F). If you can’t wait until January to get your sticker, or you can’t make it to the UCD office, you can fill out the form at http://www.phila.gov/li/UpdDocs/No_handbills.pdf to receive one by mail.

The Department of Licenses and Inspections maintains a list of all the properties that have requested a sticker, and adds them to a “do not flyer” list. Violators get fined, and the system really works! Since getting one of these stickers about a year ago, I’ve received exactly three flyers. Putting up one of these stickers is a small thing that you can do to help make University City cleaner and more sustainable!
