Weekly farmers' market at The Porch begins May 16

May 04, 2012 8 years ago

University City District (UCD), in partnership with Farm to City, is pleased to announce the inaugural Farmers’ Market at The Porch at 30th Street Station every Wednesday from 11am to 2pm beginning May 16. Adjacent to the second busiest train station in the country, between two magnificent historic buildings and within 1,200 feet of over 16,000 jobs, The Porch now features a fun and convenient opportunity to buy fresh produce and healthy foods from local farmers. At least eight unique vendors will participate (see below).

Once a congested parking lane and bland, barren sidewalk, The Porch is quickly becoming one of the most animated public places in Philadelphia, with amenities such as abundant and comfortable seating, sun and shade, trees and plantings, and ongoing performances, yoga classes and a variety of special events and festivities. As the name suggests, this new space is Philadelphia’s front porch, a welcoming entryway to the city, as well as a place to linger and socialize.

For the first twelve weeks of the market supplemental programming will be added including the popular, Give and Take Jugglers and Citywide Specials musical ensemble. The Porch Farmer’s Market is produced by University City District and Farm to City with support from the Drumcliff Foundation and Citizens Bank Foundation.
