Our UCD and Skills Initiative teams have been growing in recent months and we're pleased to share details about new additions to our staff. 

Join University City District for an afternoon of fall fun with music and pumpkin decorating! UCD invites you to Trolley Portal Gardens (40th and Baltimore) on Wednesday, October 23rd from 4 to 6 PM to enjoy a FREE concert with local musicians Ants on a Log.  Ants on a Log plays music for children and other childlike people. Their award-winning music centers positivity, social justice, and silliness.

On Monday, September 16th, 2024, members of our and Skills Initiative teams joined representatives from The Wistar Institute, Iovance Biotherapeutics, Inc., PIDC, Philadelphia Works, Inc., Life Sciences Pennsylvania, and the Philadelphia Department of Commerce in hosting Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) at The Wistar Institute to visit the current cohort in the Biomedical Technician Training Program.

Hispanic Heritage Month occurs each year from Sept 15 – Oct 15 and is a time to celebrate the rich cultural traditions and contributions of Hispanic and Latine communities. From local eats to mural arts, there are scores of possibilities to engage with and learn about Hispanic culture within Philadelphia. Today, we are excited to share news of five promotions within our staff. Please join us in congratulating A.J. Adams, Patrick Bayer, Lauren Bishop, Morgan Rogers Burns, and Dr. Romaine Thrower on their new titles. 

University City District (UCD) will hold the next edition of the Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll in 2024 on the evenings of Thursday, September 5th. The event draws thousands of neighbors and visitors to enjoy dollar deals from participating vendors. In 2022, we expanded the price levels vendors can offer from $1 deals to deals for $1, $3, OR $5.  

Beginning at 10 PM on July 12th, 2024 SEPTA crews will work around the clock, tackling critical track and power maintenance, station upgrades, and intensive cleaning as part of the 2024 Trolley Tunnel Blitz. The work will conclude by Monday, July 29th at 6 AM. Trolleys will not operate in the tunnel at any time during the Blitz. Route 10 [T1], Route 34 [T2], Route 13 [T3], Route 11 [T4] and Route 36 [T5] are suspended between 13th Street and 40th Street Portal until 6 am, July 29.

Today, University City gained a new, independently-owned grocery store with the opening of a Grocery Outlet Bargain Market. The store is owned and operated by Jaelyn and Jaida Deas, two sisters from California with extensive experience in grocery retail operations.
