SEPTA Trolley Tunnel Closing for Three Periods in early 2026

The transit agency has announced three closures of the Trolley Tunnel, connecting West Philadelphia to Center City, in early 2026.

Our partners from SEPTA will be closing the Trolley Tunnel at 40th and Baltimore for scheduled inspections and maintenance during three periods in early 2026. The closures are a planned and necessary next step to remedy the persistent overhead wire issues that forced a prolonged closure in the fall of 2025.

SEPTA will be closing the tunnel for the replacement of overhead catenary systems and due to weather during these three time periods:

During these closures, the T shuttle bus will again operate between 40th and Market and 15th and Market. Riders should use the T Bus Schedules for bus times. For the closure starting on January 23rd, planned maintenance work has been canceled due to snow-related safety and staffing issues and will be rescheduled.
