“FIGMENT Phila” Participatory Art Event to Fill Clark Park With Free Interactive Installations, Performances, Crafts, Music, Workshops and More on October 6th

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

(Philadelphia, PA) - Philadelphia’s first annual “FIGMENT Phila” participatory art event is about to bring an explosion of creative energy to the city with over 40 interactive art projects from artists throughout the region coming to West Philadelphia’s Clark Park on October 6th from 11am-5pm. A free and family-friendly event, FIGMENT Phila will offer a multitude of exciting participatory installations, performances, workshops, and games in a variety of disciplines, including sculpture, visual arts, dance, theater, music, circus arts, and crafts. Participants will be invited to design, manipulate, move through, piece together, work together, and lend their creative voices to this hands-on celebration of interactive art and the community where anything is possible.

FIGMENT Phila attendees are in for a quite a day of art and fun: air guitar battles, a pitbull kissing booth, a music-generating ice sculpture, a giant fish in need of scales, a playable lattice of chimes, weaving looms, t-shirt painting, drawing circles, and much more. Featured FIGMENT Phila artists and projects include The Wobble Family Art Collective’s “Cargo Drop” from Burning Man 2013; Miribai Galashan’s “The Love Seat;” Frank’s Kitchens Artist Collective’s “Mutant Bikes;” The Hacktory's “Make & Do Station;” Group Motion Dance improvisational performances; and Cotton Candy Circus Arts’ workshops in aerial silks and trapeze. A map and schedule of FIGMENT Phila projects will be available at the event.

FIGMENT Phila is powered entirely by a team of volunteers and in collaboration with the University City District. We continue to seek additional members of the community interested in donating their time and efforts to help build this experience. Those interested in volunteering are asked to fill out the Volunteer Interest Form: http://phila.figmentproject.org/get-involved/volunteer/

About FIGMENT:
Founded in 2007 on New York City’s Governors Island with a handful of projects and a few thousand enthusiasts, FIGMENT has grown exponentially into a multi-day, multi-city vent that drew over 30,000 participants in NYC, Boston, Jackson (MS) and Detroit in 2011 and 2012. With the addition of Washington DC, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Geelong, Australia, and several other cities since 2011, FIGMENT is constantly growing and continues its mission to offer free, inclusive participatory art and creative culture to entire communities, removing the barriers of museum and gallery walls and entrance fees, and blurring the lines between those who create and those who enjoy art.
