On the Ground With HOST: Celebrating Spring with a Festive Party

HOST St. Patrick's Day

University City District’s Homeless Outreach Service Team (HOST) provides on-the-ground support for neighbors experiencing homelessness, taking a practical, people-first approach that prioritizes relationship-building and direct access to services.

One of the main requests our team has heard from our program’s participants is to ask for more opportunities to come together and enjoy special occasions. That’s why on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, we organized a St. Patrick’s Day gathering for unhoused neighbors, serving green bagels, pizza, festive treats, and hot and cold drinks. The event was planned to create a welcoming space for conversation, connection, and relationship-building while HOST staff shared information about available resources and support services.

“Moments like this help us build trust and meet people where they’re at,” said HOST manager Caitlyn Shauger. “Something as simple as sharing food can open the door to conversations about the support someone may need.” Events like this are part of HOST’s ongoing outreach work to support vulnerable neighbors across University City. These kinds of special events build on the everyday support that serves as the backbone of HOST’s work. If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness or housing instability, HOST can help. Please reach out to our Manager of Outreach Support and Services at cshauger@universitycity.org.
