Hung Liu: Happy and Gay Exhibit Opening Reception

The Arthur Ross Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania is delighted to announce Hung Liu: Happy and Gay, on view August 15–October 26, 2025. This timely traveling exhibition celebrates the work of renowned artist Hung Liu, exploring themes of history, identity and cultural memory through vibrant, large-scale paintings.

On Friday, September 5th at 4 pm there will be a VIP Preview walkthrough with Dr. Dorothy Moss, Director of the Hung Liu Estate, followed by an opening reception at 5 pm with remarks at 6 pm.

The University of Pennsylvania’s Arthur Ross Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition Hung Liu: Happy and Gay, opening this summer. Organized by the Georgetown University Art Galleries in Washington, D.C., where it was guest curated by Dr. Dorothy Moss in collaboration with Georgetown graduate students, the exhibition will travel to Philadelphia from Georgetown’s Maria & Alberto de la Cruz Art Gallery. Hung Liu: Happy and Gay presents a selection of oil paintings and prints from a 2011-12 series by Hung Liu, the renowned Chinese American artist (born Changchun, China 1948 – died Oakland, California 2021)
