The Philly Bookstore Crawl Comes to West Philadelphia

Discover five bookstores in West Philadelphia that are participating in this year’s Philly Bookstore Crawl.

The Philadelphia Bookstore Crawl, a yearly celebration of the city’s vibrant bookstore scene, returns for its third edition on Saturday, August 23rd.

The concept is simple: at the close of summer, participating bookstores across the city host unique events all on the same day. From discounted books and exciting giveaways to in-store author signings, each shop offers something special.

Making Worlds is a nonprofit cooperative bookstore and social center in West Philadelphia with roots in independent publishing, education, community media, and grassroots organizing. Its mission is to distribute literature and resources while fostering cultural programming that supports collective learning, movement building, and visions of liberation.

House of Our Own Books, located in a Victorian house on the edge of Penn’s campus, offers two floors of new and used books in both general and scholarly fields. Its carefully organized collection spans nearly every genre, with surprises tucked into every room and shelves of books for readers to discover!

Bindlestiff Books, a volunteer-run shop in West Philadelphia, offers a curated mix of new and discounted titles spanning children’s books, fiction, politics, and more. During the crawl, the store will host giveaways from noon to 7 PM.

Located just steps from Penn’s campus, Last Word Bookshop stocks more than 80,000 used and out-of-print titles across every subject. The shop also buys, trades, and accepts donations of quality used books.
