University of Pennsylvania African American Resource Center presents The Orator: Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Orator is a true story, highlighting the journeyof K Rose, a gifted child orator, growing up in the city of Philadelphia underthe influence and tutelage of her mother. While her home life shaped heroratorical gift, the Black Baptist church provided the stage for her oratorical gift to be nurtured. Taking notice of the young girl’s oratorical gift, whenshe spoke on youth day at the Historical St. Paul’s Baptist church in NorthPhiladelphia, was Dr. William Cousins, an optometrist, civic leader and member of the civic group, Philadelphia Frontiers. Dr. Cousins makes a very unusual request to K. Rose at the age of thirteen, to learn the I Have a Dream speech, by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King jr.

Performed as a one-women show, the performance, highlights the history of the African American family and community.
