Ancient Egypt in Watercolors: Paintings and Artifacts from Dra Abu el-Naga

On view for the first time in the U.S., Ancient Egypt in Watercolors: Paintings and Artifacts from Dra Abu el-Naga brings together exquisite, century-old watercolors created by Egyptian artist Ahmed Yousef during Penn Museum excavations in the early 1920s. These paintings vividly record elaborately decorated funerary chapels from Dra Abu el-Naga, a key burial ground of elite officials and priests during Egypt’s New Kingdom (ca. 1550–1070 BCE).

CURATOR’S LECTURE | 3-4 pm
Josef Wegner, Ph.D., is a Curator in the Egyptian Section and a Professor of Egyptian Archaeology at Penn. Since 1994, he has directed excavations at the mortuary complex and settlement site dedicated to pharaoh Senwosret III at South Abydos.
