Summer of Soul

FRIDAY, AUGUST 5TH AT SUNDOWN

In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker that took home the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary—part music film, part historical record created around an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion. Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). The footage was largely forgotten–until now. SUMMER OF SOUL shines a light on the importance of history to our spiritual well-being and stands as a testament to the healing power of music during times of unrest, both past and present. The feature includes concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension and more.

This film is rated PG-13 for smoking, brief drug material, and some disturbing images. Runtime 1 hour and 57 minutes.

Come dressed in your best 90's outfits and rock out with us!

This film is rated PG-13 for mild language and raunchy humor. Runtime 1 hour and 35 minutes.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 19th AT SUNDOWN

Enjoy a chance to see the 2020 Academy-Award-winning film on the big screen! Soul tells the story of Joe, a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn't quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is jazz -- and he's good. But when he travels to another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it means to have soul. Soul features the voice talents of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Angela Bassett, Daveed Diggs, Richard Ayoade, and Questlove.

This film is rated PG for thematic elements and mild language peril. Runtime 1 hour 40 minutes.

Westside Story (2021)

FRIDAY, AUGUST 26th AT SUNDOWN

In this Oscar-nominated remake of the 1957 musical from Steven Spielberg, love at first sight strikes when young Tony (Ansel Elgort) spots Maria (Rachel Zegler) at a high school dance in 1957 New York City. Their burgeoning romance helps to fuel the fire between the warring Jets and Sharks -- two rival gangs vying for control of the streets.
