Regional nonprofits and artists worldwide are encouraged to apply for arts and cultural programming and temporary installation projects at one of Philadelphia’s great public spaces

(Philadelphia, PA) – Building on two years of creative momentum at The Porch at 30th Street Station, University City District (UCD), the neighborhood improvement and economic development organization in West Philadelphia, has announced a pair of arts funding opportunities for this vital public space: The Porch Partnership Programming Fund, for regional arts and cultural nonprofits, and Temporary Art, for artists, designers and architects worldwide.

The Porch Partnership Programming Fund is a three-round $150,000 grant-making effort for Greater Philadelphia nonprofits seeking to facilitate innovative arts and cultural projects at The Porch. The fund’s second round – with proposals due Friday, February 7, 2014 – will support projects executed between April and June, 2014. The Porch Partnership Programming Fund is made possible through the generous support of the William Penn Foundation.

Temporary Art is an open call for qualifications from emerging and/or established visual artists, designers, and architects to develop lively, engaging, and resonant temporary art to be installed at The Porch during 2014. The total budget for installations is between $50,000 and $75,000 with the goal of activating and animating The Porch. Deadline of for submissions is Tuesday, February 18, 2014. About The Porch

In November 2011, UCD unveiled The Porch at 30th Street Station. Adjacent to the nation’s second busiest train station with 37,000 daily passengers, The Porch is a key regional gateway and at the heart of the University City’s eastern end within a 5-minute walk of 17,000 employees. The Porch has quickly emerged as a national model for an economical and efficient creation of public space. A critical component of UCD's placemaking and activation strategy at The Porch has been programming, including farmers’ markets, fitness classes, live music including the annual XPN Free at Noon concert, food truck rallies, and a beer garden, among other events. To date, the vast majority of programming at The Porch has been done by UCD. With The Porch Partnership Programming Fund and Temporary Art, UCD seeks new partners to inspire and enrich current and future visitors at The Porch.
