The folks behind Trolley Car Diner in Mt. Airy and Trolley Car Cafe in East Falls have signed on to join the $2.1 million 40th Street Trolley Portal redesign project. The University City District announced today in an e-newsletter that the full-service cafe will be called Trolley Car Station. We reached out to the UCD for more information on the partnership and project in general, which is expected to break ground this year and open in 2017, but a representative said they're still finalizing details. More information in the coming months.

For now, we know that the new portal will aim to transform the currently drab station into a "social hub," with the Trolley Car Station, as well as public seating and art installations.
