State of University City

On Wednesday, April 26th, University City District held our annual State of University City event. We were joined by key partners and stakeholders for a celebration of 25 years of University City District as we released our new State of University City 2023 publication.

University City District (UCD) is pleased to release our State of University City 2022 publication, a comprehensive report on neighborhood trends and major milestones from the previous year. 

Normally at this time of year we gather with hundreds of neighbors, stakeholders, and local officials to toast the neighborhood, review the accomplishments of our partners, and release our annual State of University City publication. Although current conditions prevent us from getting together in person this year, that has not stopped us from publishing The State of University City 2021, our comprehensive report on trends and major milestones from the previous year.

On Wednesday, December 4th, hundreds of guests attended our annual State of University City event at World Cafe Live.

On Thursday, November 9, more than 300 guests attended our annual State of University City event at World Cafe Live. This event served as an opportunity to celebrate UCD's 20th anniversary, while highlighting the major advancements in the neighborhood. Drexel President John Fry and University of Pennsylvania Executive Vice President Craig Carnaroli, the respective founding and current chairs of the UCD Board of Directors, joined UCD President Matt Bergheiser as speakers during the event.

On Monday, September 30 at International House Philadelphia, UCD and hundreds of stakeholders and civic leaders gathered to celebrate the release of The State of University City 2013/2014, the last year of accomplishments and to imagine a more “global University City.”

We’re pleased to announce the release of The State of University City 201/13, a new publication that expands on University City’s status as an engine of prosperity and possibility, innovation and commercial vibrancy as well as a world-class neighborhood with world-class amenities. More than 50 pages of color charts, statistics, photographs, and stories help demonstrate why University City and its concentration of economic activity are unmatched in all but a few communities in the country.

First Round Capital, the early-stage venture-capital firm founded by technology entrepreneur Josh Kopelman, is moving its headquarters from West Conshohocken to Philadelphia’s University City section.

On Monday, September 19, University City District celebrated the release of The State of University City 2011. Held at University City's World Café Live, the event featured remarks from University of Pennsylvania executive vice president Craig Carnaroli, Drexel University president John Fry, and The Wistar Institute Cancer Center's Dario Altieri. In addition, UCD executive director Matt Bergheiser discussed the neighborhood's unprecedented progress, especially within the fields of science and innovation, and the commercial and real estate sectors.
